We The People is for the people.

We The People is an Amsterdam based creative platform  and community for poetry, spoken word, and (performance) art since 2018. A home forefronting our migrant, PoC and queer voices as the norm. We create and host arts & culture events for the love of community. Our first and most recurring event is We The People Poetry Night. Our events are filled with poetry, spoken word & music, and look for the crossovers with different art forms. So far, we’ve had the joy of hosting these events in parks, bars, community spaces, national pop podiums and even online.

After a fruitful collaboration for the live event ‘We The People Poetry Night at Paradiso’ in 2020, We The People and Paradiso Amsterdam joined forces in 2021 for pilot online spoken word series Poetry On Sunday. This eventually birthed 2PHRASE, a new online spoken word platform and production with curated spoken word performances and exclusive interviews with artists. Go to www.2phrase.com to know more.

History

Since our foundation in the fall of 2018, We The People has been creating, sharing, expressing and connecting with our beautiful community. We started with the intention to create a space where the voices of POC individuals and other marginalized groups would not just be celebrated, but considered the norm. Quite quickly we discovered that this wasn’t just a platform, but a home. A community.

From the very first event The PoeTree in August 2018 (before we even called ourselves We The People), and to the first of many editions of We The People Poetry Night in October that same year. From We The People Radio, to Poetry On Sunday and 2PHRASE: we’ve watched our community grow and pour into each other with every rhyme, song, beat, painting, picture, video, smile, applause and embrace shared.
